Boomkat Product Review:
Swedish post-rock explorers Scraps Of Tape sure know how to put together an enthralling instrumental. The opening track here, 'Death As It Should Be' nails that quiet-loud dynamic with some truly searing sequences of distorted guitar. Consolidating this, 'Hands In Air' is like Mogwai gone emo while 'How Your Heart Gets Thrown' is a right din, with barely decipherable vocals drowned in an ocean of fuzz and cascading drum fills. 'Vibrancy' proves to be a real winner with some lovely guitar lines doubling up for a powerful sense of melodic progression. By its halfway point the track sounds like it might be an instrumental sequence from a Bloc Party record, such is the meticulous interplay between instruments. To further complicate matters, a horn section shows up and add an unforeseen funereal tone to the piece. A fine example of the genre, this album should fit nicely between your Sickoakes and Monroe Transfer albums.
