Boomkat Product Review:
**Gatefold slipcase with wrap-around strip** Rugged, cosmically spirited and spacious psych-rock blues for fans of Sunburned Hand Of The Man or Wooden Shjips, from Finland's wonderful Fonal Records. Pretty Lightning are two childhood friends from a small town in Southwest Germany. 'There Are Witches In The Woods' is their 2nd album proper, and 3rd total if you include the 'Collaboration' with their communal brethren Datashock. Their sound bears all the hallmarks of their current American counterparts, but also equally strong ties to the ritualistic rock and freak folk of their South German ancestors, Amon Düül II, or Sweden's International Harvester. A stripped down setup of guitar, vocals and drums played by Christian Berghoff and Sebastian Haas form the frayed core of the group, from which they render a mesmerizingly widescreen sound with harmonised layers of shruti box drone, organ loops and theremins. They've mastered a powerful sound, rhythmically muscular and masculine, with a high grade psychedelic potency lending itself to home meditation and, for the committed, we'd imagine a visceral live experience.
