Boomkat Product Review:
Theoretical Girls were a band formed during the nascent no wave scene of 1970s New York, led by artist and composer Jeffrey Lohn and featuring Glenn Branca and guitar, bass and vocals. True to the often shambolic, fractious climate of DIY bands in the post-punk era, Theoretical Girls never quite managed anything so conventional as an official release during the band's existence, only getting so far as to release a self-issued seven-inch. This album constitutes a substantial stock pile of Jeffrey Lohn's music from those days, revealing an avant-garde musical outfit who were as much a rock & roll band as they were a noise group, like a missing link between The Stooges and Sonic Youth. Great stuff.
