Boomkat Product Review:
*Now available in Flac format* We were half-expecting this latest twelve from the brilliant Smallville camp to be a cover version of the Cure's genius track of the same name, such is the ability of this imprint to constantly surprise and innovate within the fairly restrictive confines of modern day Minimalism, but alas, it wasn't to be. DJ Swap's "The Walk", however, pushes all the right buttons - coming to life with a hushed percussive pitter-patter that builds into a neon-fuelled structure that sounds like Villalobos in his midnight mode, all subdued glamour and romance - brilliant stuff. "Kalimba" on the flip is even better - the sublime sound of that very instrument guiding the track into exotic territory. This may well be Minimal techno, but the sound palette here is as refined and wondrous as the Nonesuch Explorer series - evoking a sort hazy day dream that best brings to mind the work of label owner Lawrence. "Consequence" is up last and ends the EP in fine style, a twilight arpeggio caressing you back into the middle of the night, out in some field surrounded by palm trees, chirping crickets and incredibly beautiful people. A brilliant twelve - a massive recommendation.
