Boomkat Product Review:
Small town acid-garage lyf on wax, committed by Californian screwball SFV Acid as the first release on Amsterdam’s Congee Disc
‘The Village’ is latest in a long line of side-spun acid/electro/house/techno jobs by Zane Reynolds’ endearingly daft but rudely functional project, which has lost none of its zaniness (soz) since his early outings with the likes of UNO and 100% Silk at start of this decade.
A-side’s ‘The Village’ unfurls 10 minutes of zig-zagging electro-acid chicanery traversing from playfully soulful chords into off-kilter and scrambled acid funk, dank dubbed out mystery, and an almost 2-step garage-style reprise with lashings of acid to taste. B-side he pushes into grimy breakbeat garage zones and chromatic nosedrip sonics with ‘AIGmix’ recalling some hybrid of Luke Vibert and Cylob, before seeing it off with the snappy ghettotech electro pressure of ‘AC_UNIT’.
