Boomkat Product Review:
Holy grail time again from Dom & Roland, following up last month’s outta nowhere issue of Aliens/Zodiak with two more Dubs From The Dungeon; his lip-bitingly strong amen rinse-out The Trap and a descent in rictus mentasm darkness on The Swarm.
The Trap was initially only found on a Grooverider show c.1998 and on a DAT tape feared lost over 20 years ago between Dom’s studio and Music House mastering/cutting facilities. Somehow - don’t ask - it turned up via Australia during christmas 2016 and, after a lil touch up from Dom it now claims its rightful place on wax, unleashing some of the nattiest amen choppage known to rave-kind. Spine-freezingly strong, full flex material guaranteed. You can put those pissy youtube rips aside now.
On the other hand, The Swarm - alternately known as Dark Skies - dials in the rolling 2-step breaks, or flow-breaks as they’re referred to, on a club-engulfing mentasm that was only available on dub plate to A-list D&B players back then. Now us plebs can pretend we’re Grooverider at Metalheadz Blue Note sessions, cloaked in crack smoke and Moschino.
