Large Plants' second album is another Sabbath-like slog thru overchurned psych rock, folk and prog tropes that sounds like an archival find from the mid-'70s. Perfect Ghost Box gear, then.
It only seems like yesterday when Large Plants' biker rock-inspired debut 'The Carrier' was dropped on our desks. 'The Thorn' is a folkier, proggier proposal, but still keeps both leather-clad feet in the past, using Brummie 'ard rock to guide it where it needs to go. Apparently it was partly recorded at the same time as its predecessor, which would explain how quickly it's appeared, in a barn that's now been demolished. A hauntological barn, then?
