Boomkat Product Review:
Tot Taylor's Sound Barrier project released The Suburbia Suite in 1984, and a very strange [piece of work it is too. Somewhere between jazz, easy listening and hold music, The Suburbia Suite is full of curious instrumental compositions, drawing together dubious '80s sax manoeuvres, cheap, parpy organs and plenty of syrupy electric piano. In theory, tracks like 'After The Gymkhana' and 'Half Term Excursion should be chronically unpleasant affairs, brimming with painful muzak tendencies and the sort of lounge-bound sounds that even your mum would balk at for being too MOR. Because this music so un-ironically embraces all of that, there is a certain charm that comes as part and parcel of this music, making The Suburbia Suite an inexplicably enjoyable listen.
