Boomkat Product Review:
Jamal Moss returns with a new stash of hypnotic, harmonic, machine made bangers restored from VHS tape for the second in a new 3-part series featuring some of the most angular and screwed productions in a now decades-long career full of them.
For the 2nd ‘...U Don't Ever Want 2 Hear…’ Jamal staunchly jaks it in the rawest style through a dozen new tracks that continue to explore the rich imaginary space between Sun Ra, Ron Hardy, and Gherkin Jerks with typical psychosexual fervour, commanding propulsive rhythms and heady harmonic distortion to deadly, ballistic and enlightening effect for discerning jackers. It’s the truth, we tell ya.
Jamal plays to his strengths in finding diversity within a theme, rendering a frazzled spectrum of his style covering unrelenting jakbeat (‘Beat Non Stop’) thru gauzy comic abstraction (’Silent Smiles’), lush synth jazz meditations (‘A Fist Full of Pennies’), and cranky slow sidewinders (‘Third Eyes Spies’). It’s all faithfully written/improvised in-the-moment, following Jamal’s burning stream-of-consciousness across the keys and buttons in a way that no AI could ever hope to create, generating a nuclear rage that never fails to elicit the most visceral response from anyone lucky enough to come into contact.
For real, ain't no one doing it this way.
