Boomkat Product Review:
Qwel is the man, imagine the delivery of Eminem, the dark humour of Anticon, the brutal musical originality of Antipop and you’re still short of Qwel and his production posse's genius. Q's previous album 'If It Ain't'...' was a massive album for me, 'Rubber..' has followed it up sharply and has managed to even out perform that. From the start, 'The Rubber Duckie Experiment', hyper twisted/looped/drum snap's, scratch swirls, off/on beat drops - then out of nowhere the track goes deep down, Qwel rapping deep in the mix with a double time attack while master producer White Lightning heightens the tension with mad samples and time twisting beats, truly 'something you can't comprehend'. 'Wind Instrument' introduces the soon to be massive producer Jackson Jones. Double fat drums, zip coat runs, deep rumble bass, a lonesome bell ring and Qwel's hyper pinpoint delivery - 7min+ that feels like 60 seconds. The dope Meaty Ogre handles the rest of the production, equally genius - 'Host' has a bass clarinet/flute counterpoint, boomin' snappy beats, rollin' dusty snare and Q's vocal out front, hyper out of control - almost laughing, though through fun and pain i'm betting 'i'm sorry dude are you mad at me'. Give this incredible album a go.....a modern day hip hop classic.
