Boomkat Product Review:
Ben Fleury-Steiner, curator of the Gears Of Sand label and collaborator with Aidan Baker presents an album over two years in the making. 'The Places That Find You' is defined by a minimalist aesthetic; largely bleak and expansive spaces with parameters set by blooming harmonic distortion - acres of imaginary soundscape terrain for the mind to ramble and explore. He embarks with the humming, glacial time lapse of 'White Embers', where sub-aquatic bass seems to disturb the cracked-ice surface textures, before 'A Silent Time' radiates like snow caught in supernaturally bright moonlight and 'Memory' plunges into darker, colder recesses. The B-side is given to two longer compositions: the cavernous, Tim Hecker-like electro-acoustic drone diffusion of 'The Places That Find You' and another, grander piece of looming basses and prickly, pointillist detailing.
