Sublime, cross-generational ambient-new-age-dub fusions from NYC’s living legend Laraaji and Canada’s Plus 8 alum, Log(m).

Once upon a time played by Andrew Weatherall on his NTS show, 2019’s ‘The Onrush Of Eternity’ now returns to reissue orbit with its over 100 minutes of deep tissue and head-massaging jams harvested from some 10 years of co-operation between the two distinctly differing, but like-minded, units. Eliding Laraaji’s serenely hammered dulcimer, zither, mbira, and sruti box drones with the plasmic electronic experiments of Lex & Rew MacCrimmon (known as Legion of Green Men for their mathematically sound ‘90s ambient excursions on Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8), the music heads off in pursuit of shared, psychedelic space dub muse to arrive at mutually user-friendly conclusions, perhaps best received in the throes of a trip.

Aligning Laraaji’s Eno-cosigned visions with a ‘90s cybernetic systems-based approaches, the 15 tracks etchasketch spiralling fancies on the back of susceptible eyelids in a manner that links to Full Circle’s Goa trance tramplers via The Orb and Mixmaster Morris’ The Irresistible Force. Once maligned for slipping into hoary convention by the end of the ‘90s, this sound has found its calling in a contemporary sphere seeking spiritual nourishment, and the union of original ambient pioneer Laraaji with Log(m)’s unfathomably layered and spectral functions is primed to reach places that other records simply don’t, especially if you can’t get over your experiences of the downtempo ‘90s, or have become infected by some unwashed ‘90s clobber with residual spirits possessed in their manky pockets.
