Boomkat Product Review:
The eagerly anticipated 'Minimal Wave Tapes Vol.2' was once again researched, selected and compiled by Veronica Vasicka and Peanut Butter Wolf and presents 14 obscure and highly sought after examples of the international DIY synth scene. Some artists from the celebrated first volume feature again - Ohama, Das Ding - while they also expand their remit to include later work by the likes of Downwards' Antonym aka Anthony Burnham, and sci-fi obsessive, Felix Kubin, beside many new contibutors - Geneva Jacuzzi, Aural Indifference, Hard Corps, and Ende Shneafliet, among others. Essentially this is the cream of Vasicka's incessant foraging gathered in one bloody handsome package. Preceding their reissue proper, The Hard Corps open the account with a jolting thrust on 'Dirty', while Greece's legendary EBM unit In Trance 95 contribute the grubby 'Presidente' and the ever ace Philippe Laurent twists to 'Distorsion'. Birmingham's Antonym is a very canny nomination with the sly funk of 'Cinnamon Air' and Felix Kubin's 'Japan Japan' is as wacky as you'd imagine, but our favourite pieces have to be Ohama's rockin' mission theme 'The Drum', and the mottled pop of Geneva Jacuzzi's 'The Sleep Room' or In Aeternam Vale's unmissable 'Annie'. Strongly recommended!
