Boomkat Product Review:
Shadowy debut chapter of dramatic strings, sci-fi synths and drum machines from The Midnight Episode on Kassem Mosse's Ominira label. Produced, written and arranged by Manchester's Nicola Cunningham and Stockholm's Karl Skagius, it's a noirish, cinematic suite strongly reminiscent of Moon Wiring Club's eldritch eccentricities, only with a darker, northerly synth sound likely owing to Skagius' work in the Helena Hauff-favoured Kan3da unit and with Scando-electro legend, Luke Eargoggle. Classic Radiophonic soundtracks to The Wyrding Module, The Quatermass Experiment and countless Dr. Whos are called to mind, but cannily mottled with a patina of shifty, lysergic electronics and tape FX to sound in between worlds, out of time and well trippy. RIYL Ghost Box, Gecophonic, Joane Skyler, Pye Corner Audio.
