Boomkat Product Review:
Originally a string quartet, and longtime collaborators with Sigur Ros, Amiina now includes drummer Magnus Trygvason Eliassen and brilliantly named electronics bod Kippi Kaninus. Four years ago the band toured the length of Iceland, performing mainly in lighthouses (as you do), from a repertoire written or reworked specifically for the purpose (and including a cover of Lee Hazelwood's 'Leather and Lace'). They humbly describe these pieces as "little nocturnes in simple arrangements", but they obviously knew they worked, and subsequently decided to revisit them in the studio, performing them as-live; this disc on Morr documents the so-called Lighthouse Project and is as lovely a slice of Scandi chamber-folk as you're likely to hear this year, all the more powerful for its economy of expression. Recommended for fans of Peter Broderick, Colleen, Julianna Barwick, etc.
