Boomkat Product Review:
The second album by British born New Yorker Essie Jain, now released in an expanded format, including two bonus tracks: 'Not Yours' and 'I Remember It Just Like This'. Essie Jain's craft is augmented by refined, ensemble arrangements, framing her subtle central performances with the utmost delicacy. 'Eavesdrop' suggests comparisons with Joan As Policewoman mightn't be entirely out of order, featuring a similarly poised and gentle vocal, fronting a piece of music that combines lulling piano arpeggios with slow string swells. Next up, a rhythm section kicks in under the most unassuming of circumstances, lining 'Here We Go' with a light swagger. This comparatively sedate, downbeat jaunt transpires to be amongst the more full-blooded entries into The Inbetween's tracklist, which elsewhere features a surfeit of minor key ballads and truly haunting, sparsely decked out heartstring tuggers like 'Weight Off Me' and 'I Remember It Just Like This'. Recommended.
