The Herbaliser Band - Session 1 & 2
*A SPECIAL EDITION, FEATURING BOTH THE NEW ALBUM, SESSION 2 AND 2000's SESSION 1* Long-term Herbaliser fans will no doubt recall the Session One double-album from 2000. This live album (recorded with a full band) became something of a fan favourite, and so now at their new home on K7 Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry have set about recording a second installment, calling on their more recent catalogue, reaching as far back as 1997's Blow Your Headphones. The raw, flowing funk of the original Session is captured all over again, harnessing a far more naturalistic sound than you'd hear on the Herbaliser's heavily machined sample-laden studio records, though there's still a suitably energised electronic presence thanks to plenty of turntablist flourishes and synthesiser embellishments. The highest praise should probably be directed towards the drummer and the brass section though, who really bring the music to life on tracks like 'Another Mother' and the imaginary '70s police chase soundtrack, 'Geddim!'.
