Boomkat Product Review:
Num9 is the new alias of Coque Yturriaga, member of Emak Bakia and superstars of Spanish indie folk Migala. This latest project finds Yturriaga filtering his songwriting through a web of brittle electronics and laptop infusions. Much of the material here seems to flirt playfully with crisply rendered drum machine patterns and skittering percussion, but it's when Yturriaga uses electronics more as an atmospheric agent or a means of providing abstract textures to his compositions that he's most successful, the nocturnal synthesizer rasp and guitar haze of 'Stars' being a particularly fine example of this. The Tunng-like folktronics are broken up nicely by the found-sound collages 'Poema De La Resistencia' and 'Poema De La Luciernaga', which show a wholly different side to Yturriaga's pop meanderings.
