Boomkat Product Review:
Gritty, lo-fi experiments in avant-jazz and electronics, including dancefloor remixes from Mass prod and Harmonious Thelonious. Tru West are the Berlin-based quartet of Martin Hopkins (wind, tapes, dubs), Niccolo Daniel Rufo (vocals, SP 303), Herve Atse Corti (modular synthesisers), and Raffaele Amenta (clarinet). Their two tracks of noise-textured jams were recorded at Mass Hypnosis Research Lab in Tempelhof, Autumn 2012 and sound something like a recording of Sun-Ra going doomy on a rooftop in the middle of a strong breeze. Group member, Martin Hopkins aka Mass Prod gives a lithe house remix on the flip rife with airborne clarinet and phasing synthlines, whilst Stefan Schwander aka Harmonious Thelonious flips the original material into a Sunset Liturgy mix of grinding bottom end, latticed polyrhythms and rising organ chords.
