Boomkat Product Review:
Still relative newcomers, Montreal's Menace Ruine made their Alien8 debut last year, following up their Cult Of Ruins release with this volume of shimmering doom-gaze. Considering the band are in fact a mere duo, they make a considerable amount of noise, spewing cathedral-sized helpings of medieval sounding goth-folk distortion. If that all sounds a bit awkward and messy, well it is: 'Dismantling' might be how Espers would sound if Greg Weeks was replaced with Kevin Shields. It really is alarmingly abrasive. Elsewhere, 'This Place Of Power' makes like SunnO))) getting their groove on round a maypole, and 'One Too Many' arrives at the perfect configuration of effects pedals to create a head-splitting, distorted cacophony. Painful, but incredibly mesmerising.
