The Definition of Hardcore
The development of the 'ardkore continuum' has been well documented in recent years and the progressions in style and technique are perfectly encpsulated here in Reinforced's 1993 set 'Definition of hardcore'.
The style made a definite shift towards darker, more complex and technically accomplished constructions as the new generation of producers introduced new sounds and technology into the game. Heading out with the churning subs and pitched strings of 4Hero's 'Into the light', the collection introduces ever fresher mutations from Scott & Keith with some sick breakbeat manipulations on 'Get busy Cru', piano rave bombs from Nookie on 'Gonna be alright', darkside dancers contortions from Primary Source and Underground Software, through to all time classics from Rufige Kru with the ininimitable 'Terminator 2' and Nasty Habits' 'Dark Angel', augmenting the traditionally dancehall soundsystem vibes with fierce strains of Belgian techno imported from the continent.
That's not to mention definitve cuts from Nebula II, Tek 9 and yet more 4Hero. It's a whole thing.
