Boomkat Product Review:
Four remixes from Carl Craig, Kode 9, Tensnake and Hot Chip! Carl Craig's intense interpretation of 'Like A Child' is just classic - a ticking rhythm and drip of sparkling synths well up around the glottal-rich delivery of the original's indie-hearted composition. Teasing you in true Carl Craig fashion, the build up to the Detroit-stamped beats is suitably intense; detonating the techno aesthetics amongst a disruption of the vocals that adds the following arpeggio a sense of real scope and wonder. Detonating some sub-bass couplets is Hyperdub boss Kode 9 - here retrimming 'Double Shadow' for the darker members of the audience. Having been mates with Jeremy from Junior Boys for years (even including a cover of 'High Come Down' on the first Hyperdub release), Kode 9's involvement seems like a done deal as the lights are lowered and the rumbling whip-crack of the dubstep siren-call submerges 'Double Shadow' in its inky waters. Creased through Space Ape rambling, Kode 9 has delivered a remix that manages to retain the melancholic stance of the original whilst cooking up a noir-landscape with which to bowl over the dubstep crew. Tensnake take the line of retro-minded electrohous, with some searing, neon synths and ultra-compressed kicks, while Hot Chip add the necessary pazzazz to already glittering source matrerial.
