Boomkat Product Review:
It's like Christmas come early (or very late) for the bulging dubstep masses with the hugely anticipated arrival of Magnetic Man's first 12"! For those who haven't visited dubstepforum or just have better things to do with their time, Magnetic Man is the LaptopPowerSuperTroupe consisting of dubstep originators Benga, Skream and Artwork who collectively hold the first three Big Apple catalogue numbers and whose dubstep credentials cannot be f*cked with. So it's quite a surprise to hear them leave behind all the swing, funk and wildout bass-fun of their previous releases in favour of a cold and mechanically over-produced sound strictly for the dubstep ravers. The first hints of the project came on MAH's 'Evangeline' comp last year and at selected live dates where one could witness the awesome might of three men jacking behind oversized Macbooks. The tracks here are brand new productions, ranging from the hard surfaces and robo-rave functions of 'The Cyberman', to the more succesful 'Eclipse' with Benga's bashy influence run rife, or the supremely odd 'Glitch' which really has no place in a dancehall, but should sound splendidly fooked in your bedroom on good subs. Fans of Benga, Skream, Artwork or Dubstep, it's a no-brainer.
