Boomkat Product Review:
The first Awful Records release to land on wax, arriving weirdly enough via Geir Jenssen’s Biophon Records outta Norway‽
Originating in Atlanta’s increasingly twisted and psychedelic hip hop underground,The Crucifixion of Rapper Extraordinaire, Slug Christ reps Awful Records’ loose and beguiling style with drawling, mostly impenetrable and manic-depressive bars set to a backdrop of melting walls and oxycontin-laxxed trap patter.
As he says at the start of Hokey Hokay Hokay, “if you don’t follow me / it’s probably cos you’re stuck in 2K15, 2K16 / whatever the fuck year it is / and i’m in the year ten bajillion eighty after the goddamn sun has exploded”, which kinda sums up his whole steez, operating from a mindset of f**k y’all, i’m forward. And when coupled with the head-spinning production from Slugger himself, plus Ethereal, Dexter Dukarus, GAHM, and Lucifer, and that awesome sleeve, who the hell are we to argue?
