Boomkat Product Review:
DJ Roc is one of Chicago's baddest DJs and Footwork producers. Born and raised in the city's Southside Juke stronghold, his three 'Juke City' mixtapes are among the most widely distributed examples of this niche scene, dominating the playlists of rhythmically aware freaks and dancers across the world. 'The Crack Capone' is his debut collection of 20 individual solo productions, an arsenal of highly flammable, hi-speed dance manipulators, running from the Junior Reid-sampling 'One Blood', to the Gregorian chants and churning Toms of 'Phantom Call', the contortionist syncopations of 'Crack Like This', and the heart-stoppingly tender balance of tension in moments like 'Take His Ass Out' and 'Lost Without You'. In many ways, it's a more muscular adjunct to Nate's equally brilliant 'Da Trak Genius' album, and just as much fun. Planet Mu have seemingly exposed a Pandora's box of Juke/Footwork goodness with their current label agenda and we can't praise them enough for it. Hugely recommended!
