Boomkat Product Review:
Canny synth-pop craft from Portland duo of Ian Hicks and Patricia Hall, the latest arrival from the excellent Captured Tracks label. Having only formed last last year (2009) 'The Cold World Melts' is their debut release, following a string of well received live shows. They play pulsing, romantic synth-pop on an authentic array of Roland contraptions, Micro Moog and pedals, approaching the sound of IDIB starlets Glass Candy, but with a dirtier thrust, somewhere between darkwave, Italo and the kind of industrial stuff which infected the clubs of early 80s Chicago. There's a couple of real peaches to be found, namely in the coked-up fashion-party shimmy of the title track and the Hasbeens-style suicide-pop of 'Another Goodbye'. Awesome.
