Boomkat Product Review:
The Air In Pieces is Geoff Mullen's second album and his first for the Last Visible Dog imprint. The tone of this magnificent piece of work might be approximated as a tribute of sorts to Loren Connors, or perhaps Neil Young's Dead Man soundtrack, as produced in Grouper's dusty old studio. Gloomy strips of guitar emerge from a murky puddle of tape hiss and general murk - there could be any number of things going on beneath the surface here, but you'd be hard pressed to make them out. The power of suggestion is Mullen's collaborator on this album, playing all kinds of tricks with your subconscious. A dark, bewitching set of overcast song fragments that's as bewitching as anything you're likely to come across on the always excellent Last Visible Dog imprint. Essential Purchase.
