Boomkat Product Review:
After some internet searching I finally found out who Half Cousin were - and interestingly they're some kind of collective led by the Orkney based singer Kevin Cormack. Apparently he's got collaborators in the Earlies and a certain Mr Creosote to help him out, and if 'The Absentee' is anything to go by then he's doing okay. A simple, concise pop song in every way this is actually the shortest track on the 12", which comes accompanied by a triptych of remixes from all sorts of electronically-minded folk. First up is the kings of mediocre drivel Zero 7 under the Ingrid Eto moniker, and unsurprisingly this is the most dull mix on the 12", but luckily things get a little more heated on the flipside. Justus Kohncke turns in a startling display of affection towards the track with a Georgio Moroder influenced bassline and just enough drive to make this more than a simple 'techno' remix, and then the 12" is rounded off with the best mix of all, a Krautrock inspired jam from the really very good Fujiya and Miyagi which possibly betters the original track in every way.
