Boomkat Product Review:
**Upfront Digital Exclusive** **Exceptional psych-o-tronic trips for fans of Mordant Music, Bellows, The Stranger or BEB!** Berlin's Another Dark Age label claim an idiosyncratic nether ground with LST's aleatoric enigma, 'Th Duo'. Staking a unique position just behind the ear, right at the back of your bonce, Melbourne's Tarquin Manek (a.k.a. half of BEB's Tarcar) quietly mines his very own "lo-sci-fi" style in this series of nine corrupted memory implants meshing frayed nerves and fragmented, extra-terrestrial frequencies. The process of 'Th Duo''s creation, junked together from recordings made on mobile phones and micro cassettes, lends it to acute comparison with Bellows' creaky small sound dubs or the crankiest Ekoplekz emissions but, there's something deeply infected about the puttering radiophonics of 'List Sideways Trend' or the keening matte black synth strokes of 'Lewd Strewth Truth' which express a uniquely distempered vision and melodic eccentricity more in line with Leyland Kirby. The track titles themselves - a play on SPK's love of acronyms - are perfectly evocative of the music; 'Lemon Suck Teeth' is bitter, curdled ambience; 'Liquid Squid Tapping' feels narcotically amorphous, sub-aquatic; the opening/closing bookends, 'Lego Swept Terrains' and 'Lovely Silk Towel' strike a strange sub-conscious zone triggering a primal, synaesthetic sorta déjà vu for early, haptic texturetones and sensations. Quite honestly, it's not too early to call this as one of the records of the year so far. Massive recommendation.
