Boomkat Product Review:
Terradactyl (which is presumably either how Americans choose to spell Pterodactyl, or it's just plain wrong) marks the Anticon debut of abstract beatmaker Polyphonic and the similarly leftfield Serengeti, a compelling lyricist and MC. The album consolidates Anticon'sreturn to its rap heartland in recent times. Having dabbled in genres further afield over past years, releases like this serve as reminders of the label's original purpose, transmitting far-out beats and free-association rhymes that test the parameters of hip hop. 'La La Lala' serves as a good example of the duo's peculiar constitution, fusing almost Pole-like glitched production flourishes with stream-of-consciousness lyrical flows with little regard for convention or structure. Terradactyl proves to be a beguiling piece of esoteric hip hop, experimental to the core but by no means alienating.
