Boomkat Product Review:
Any techno sceptics reading the Spectral Sound blurb for this release would have their eyes rolling at the very first line, which refers to 'Take You There's "unforgettable opening "one... two... one-two-three" kick pattern". When the introduction of a fifth kick drum into a 4/4 pattern is deemed not only worth writing about but "unforgettable", you can reasonably deduce that the world has most surely turned a very dark corner indeed. Still, let's not take this out on Ms. Simko herself; over recent releases - particularly the abstract soundtrack work Music From The Atom Smashers - Simko's proven herself a discerning producer, and this EP is no exception. 'Take You There' carves up lady-vocals within a production that runs along similar lines to the minimal motorisation of Cassy, while 'Down Beat' serves up some warm, padded beats and swells of half-formed melody. A tad more simplified and old-fashioned in approach, 'Margie's Groove' works out very nicely, although you'd have to say Bruno Pronsato steals the EP a bit with his extended and thoroughly buffed-up redux of the title track.
