Boomkat Product Review:
The untouchable Mumdance tags in a particularly hungry Novelist for the maaad 'Take Time' killer, backed with a Spyro hook-up and instrumentals. With this 12" and recent outings on Tectonic and Keysound alongside Logos and Pinch, the man Mumdance has arguably done more than most UK producers to boot Grime and UK club music forward. Using a palette of pointillist samples and frantic drum programming diffused in arrangements owing as much to Eski templates as D&B and electro-acoustic music, he's coined a very London style of concrète bass music. On 'take Time' Novelist lends his unique syntax, pitched like a madman, to a hyper-tight Eski-style riddim, whilst 'Don't Get Lemon' links up Spyro in a minimalist helix of spinbacks, rail-gunning snares and oriental samples. Flipside, the micro-edited bleeps and fibrillating gabber kicks of 'The Sprawl' make for one of the most ridiculous riddims we've heard all year, and there's an instrumental of 'Take Time' to boot. So crucial it's not even funny.
