Boomkat Product Review:
Retro rock is great isn’t it? Comets on Fire absolutely killed us on release of their last epic ‘Blue Cathedral’ joint, and now Major Stars offer their latest piece of retro goodness (after a split 12” with the aforementioned Comets). This is ROCK, and by that I mean shouting, distorted guitars, drunken beatplay and all round attitude. I'd like to think they recorded this in a basement somewhere, either that or a garage, and that all their gear is only half-working, the pedals have to be stomped a couple of times to get them working properly. This is damn good music, and that’s the main thing. New vocalist Sandra Barrett adds a delicious sultry edge to the band, but it’s still the killer squealing lead guitar riffs that push Major Stars into the Major League here. ‘The Ravager’ showcases their talents perfectly, conjuring up images of the best the 70s had to offer – Hendrix, Zeppelin and of course the Sabbath. Let’s rock baby.
