Berlin's YYAA Tapes commit the psy-collaged debut release by Backtearer to cassette after a far-flung line of issues from TCF, Trevor Lee Larson, Linda Spjut and Ussugdjung.
If you're a regular listener to YYAA Tapes' show on BCR, you've might have copped a dose of Backtearer's 'Swear' somewhere amidst their exquisite selections but, you'd be forgiven for missing them as the diversity and sticky segues between each track perhaps resemble a mixed set or mixtape as much as a composed piece of music.
It starts out in a quagmire of sub-bass and samples, before breaking out in kosmiche flight to what sounds like old Random Trio dubstep, flowing into clipped UKF and Jean Michel-Jarre-esque synth strokes, to spin sideways into ambient wormholes, screwed Indian classical music and coiled trap beats, with an outro volley of gunshots, foley and strings sounding like some layered up Rabit or Total Freedom blend.
There a paucity of copies available; you know the drill!
