Boomkat Product Review:
A companion piece to his recent Signaux LP, Suspended Cadences finds Robert Hampson continuing his association with France's GRM and his explorations of acousmatic sound.
It might not seem obviously aligned with the lysergic space-rock of Loop or the isolationist dub of Main, Hampson's two best-known projects, but in a way the goals are the same: time-travel, spiritual ascent, the sublimation of self into pure sound. 'Suspended Cadences (Three)' sounds at first like a million modems and routers whirring into life, creating a layer of strangely peaceful insect chatter which in turn gives way to longer, swarming drones; the climax reached is almost neo-classical in its grandeur. 'Suspended Cadences (Four)' is drift music, flatter and more open, but revealing hidden complexities across its 20 minute duration.
