Boomkat Product Review:
Steve Kielty aka Survival has been a consistent behind-the-scenes figure in the D'n'B scene since the mid 90's. His self titled debut album for DBridge's Exit Recordings is one of the scene's most anticipated discs this year. His experience as a studio engineer is clearly apparent on tracks like the intensely crafted 'Seveth Sign' with stringently arranged breaks and menacing synths creating that proper darkside feel, with just a hint of old skool Photek. For the most part though, Survival prefers heavy-stepping rhythm patterns with close attention to atmospheric and textural detail, like the cinematic strings and instrumentation of 'Walk On By', or more complex beat arrangements with moody late night signatures on 'Even Now'.
