Boomkat Product Review:
Having recently provided a leg-up for Mouse On Mars and Lazer Sword, Modeselektor's predictably unpredictable Monkeytown Records opens its books to accommodate the unkillable Otto Von Schirach. The self-conscious wackiness of his Supermeng album does grate at times, but there's also a lot of fun to be had: Latin-spiced Miami bass thumper 'Salpica', the Drexciyan coin-op electro of 'Breathe The Beat' and even the B-52s style new wave punk-pop of 'Ultimate Universe' are all worth returning to. If you're resistant to humour, bold gestures and stylistic about-turns in your electronic music, we'd suggest giving this one a wide berth, but those looking for broad entertainment with a side-serving of sub-bass could do worse than spend half an hour in the company of OVS.
