Wickedly rangy hybrids of concrète dub and noise techno produced on an Iraq basecamp by the unknown project AC-893, for promising young Italian label Miniera - one for fans of Vialan, Automatisme, Vladislav Delay, Rat Heart, SM-LL, Simbiosi
‘SUPERCALIDEEPSTATE’appears to be the sole release by AC-893, who keep everything as cryptic as their codename suggests. Their debut is said to be prompted by deep mediation and explores altered states of consciousness, implying it lands well on minds who can also achieve those states sober or with a little help from substances, i.e. a bit of that loud. All four parts feel as though constructed while deep in the work flow and occupy the full frequency spectrum from nanscopic, magnified shards to recursive depths that beguile the listener’s depth perceptions and play out damn well on the back of half-mast eyelids.
‘Blessed by the Unknown’ plunges head first into nine oh nine minutes of post Chain Reaction dub with scratchy, insectoid scuttle foregrounded against resoundingly reverberant, off beat pulses and dub chords, and ‘E-mail me from Space’ ups the itchy distortion in clouds of burning wire wool textures and hobbled steppers rhythm resembling Vladislav Delay’s elemental dub noise. The crystalline dub caverns of ‘Melted’ insert that plate for a few minutes, and ‘Disorder New Order’ swangs out grouchy and restive on noise techno tip that never quite settles into its groove with compelling force.
