Boomkat Product Review:
Dark Entries plate up a necessary and acrid taste of Smersh's cranky industrial dance prototypes with this 1983 -1993 compilation, 'Super Heavy Solid Waste'. Following on from the 'Cassette Pets' compilation, this set ransacks the duo's extensive arsenal to squeeze in all the other mad nuggets they couldn't fit in the first time around. Further proving their position as forerunners of the mongrel, junkyard techno aesthetic adopted by everyone from Prostitutes to Helena Hauff and Powell, the set revolves eight scabbed and ruffneck cuts ranging from the jagged metallic drums and patch-worked samples of 'Out Demon Out' and the squealing, jacked-up stress test of 'Highway Surplus' to unhinged EBM pelt in 'Palomar' and 'Land of Feeling Good', whilst the prescient fizz and roil of 'Under Your Hoop' predates Whitehouse's Afro-noise aesthetics by a good decade, and the skeletal jag of 'Spook House' cocks a wry, rictus grin at Chicago and New York house music of that era. Highly recommended!
