Boomkat Product Review:
Described by the oracle of all things Mad Decent, Diplo, as "violent, futuristic soul music", DJ Blaqstarr's take on the Baltimore schematic is more focused and detailed than much of that which passes for the city's musical calling-card - with silky vocals bumping over gunshot beats and crafty samples galore. Kicking the door down through title track 'Supastarr', Blaqstarr allows his supine vocal performance just the right amount of calm whilst all around Lil John samples collide and semi-automatic rhythms punch the air with wild abandon. Loud and instinctive, Blaqstarr continues to hit the target with 'Tote It' (a track which has gunpowder ricocheting from every orifice), before 'Shake It To The Ground' does just that with vocals from Rye Rye that are the perfect antidote to the urban decay framed in the background. Elsewhere, 'Rockstarrz' features a mystery vocal (you'll know it...), 'Automatic Lover' is a spiraling gem, whilst Rye Rye's acapella from 'Shake It To The Ground' will be a handy tool for any DJ with a floor to ignite. Starrman!
