Boomkat Product Review:
Ecstatic Indie types Animal Collective have already proven to the world that their melting pot of joyful harmonics, dancing rhythms and psyched spirit is what everyone needs, but many may be surprised at their on-point pick of remixers for latest single 'Summertime Clothes'. Giving credit where it's due, the Collective have picked Dam Funk, Zomby and L.D to take their sound on varying tangents of future funk, with each remixer delivering one of the most interesting versions in their respective catalogues. Dam Funk's mix replaces the percussion with cotton-crisp drum machine patterns and adds some funk flair to the lush melody resulting in a sound like Prince, Prefab Sprout and Egyptian Lover frolicking in a trippy dream sequence. Our pick of the mixes has to be from Leon Day aka L.D. His mix is the least directly faithful to original material but still manages to capture that essence of ecstasy with febrile Soca percussion and swooping low-end rhythms matched by dense layers of glassy melodic foliage making for a lush future junglist style that'll fry the majority of dubsteppers heads. Finally Zomby makes his second remix outing for Domino records with his 'Analog Lego' mix, picking up where the ecstasy ends and the spliffs come out for a crumpled slouch of bong-beats and echo traced vocals leaving a pungent aroma in the air. Cracking record. Recommended!
