Boomkat Product Review:
Razor cut but sentimental electro-IDM trixx from 96 Back, tweaking out his take on twysted Yorkshire bass torque like a jazzier Sensate Focus/Rian Treanor/Gábor Lázár for Local Action
Chasing up his self-released ‘ADRISM’ album, ’Sugilite’ sees 96 Back cutting hypercrisp shapes somewhere between garage, electro and juke with a deft athleticism and ear for detail that’s only getting sharper with each release.
‘Half A Reach’ puckers up classic AFXian/µ-Ziquian melodies and sparky 2-step, going over-easy on the jazz-fusion fills, while the pinched garage-electro of ‘Waif’ sounds like it just corkscrewed off a Gábor Lázár album. ‘Hot Tip’ tilts into a killer needlepoint D&B/footwork steppers style recalling Rian Treanor and 33EMYBW, leaving ‘Inclination Flesh’ to dance on your frayed nerve endings in a proper Braindancer’s special.
