Boomkat Product Review:
This was the very first full-length effort from T.Raumshmiere, documenting a very different slant on the producer's career from his current activities. After the loose connection intro of 'Kabelbrand' 'Willkommen Im Strom' and 'Energiekriese' make like a digitised approximation of Pan Sonic's raw sounds, combining regular machine rhythms with outbursts of noise before organising into more explicitly techno-flavoured material like the gritty clicks and cuts dynamics of 'Roter Plusch'. Sure, it sounds a bit dated, but the spluttering minimalism of the release still appeals, providing a more easily digested take on the aesthetics of clicks and cuts. The later stages of the album are especially rewarding: 'Synapsengknister' fashioning a crackling soundscape as if composed from some malfunctioning hospital equipment while 'Monoblock' is more cinematic affair, shunning beats in favour of orchestral textures. It's all some way from the industrial glam-funk of later T.Raumschmiere releases, and frankly, that's probably good news. Highly recommended.
