Boomkat Product Review:
The Rob Hood reissue scheme continues apace with a remastered version of his 1998 M-Plant winner the 'Stereotype' EP. Elements of this masterclass in streamlined rhythmic economy recently appeared in his 'Minimal Nation Mix' accompanying the classic album, acting as suitably sleek and precision engineered components of the Hood machine. 'Stereotype 1' tracks Kraftwerk style breathing sounds over aerodynamic rhythms, built with that hypnotic sensibility that he pretty much owns. 'Stereotype 2' flickers with a more urgent agenda, adding pizzicato strings to twanging micro-funk synthlines before 'Stereotype 3' tucks up into a steadily upbuilding rhythm reminiscent of his 'Spectral Nomad EP' stripped down to a lean DJ tool. Dancers and DJs need this record in their lives!!!
