Boomkat Product Review:
Here’s a bit of a surprise – as a Record Store Day exclusive, Erased Tapes regulars Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm have put together this gorgeous EP and what a corker it is too. I know, I know – you’re expecting some lush piano and delicately orchestrated melancholy strings aren’t you? Well you’re probably looking in the wrong place, Arnalds and Frahm have ditched the ivories here in favour of electronics, and as the opening piece suggests it has more in common with Tangerine Dream than Erik Satie. Haunting clipped arpeggios drift through crackling radio noise and rumbling percussion – sounding almost like Deaf Center and Emeralds collaborating. At twenty-five minutes it’s a more than generous EP, but lets hope the two don’t stop here; ‘Stare’ feels like a tantalizing taste of something that could develop much further.
