Stanley Yershonowski Presents Xylophonejism
Ever been kept awake at night wondering what an album of spastic breakcore from the nephew of Motorhead's Lemmy would sound like? Well guess what... After dabbling in hardcore techno back in the mid-90's a chance encounter with a Sun Ra record saw Dan Doormouse fusing styles to mint Americana breakcore and establishing the Addict and Distort labels in the process. Opening the carnival is the frankly demented 'Humanism' wherein some concrete techno is crossbred with Desmond Dekker than sprinkled liberally throughout by Fantomas-style cartoontronica. Utterly merciless in it's intent, 'Humanism' is akin to downing a bottle of mouthwash in one sitting then buzzing around with glee at the absolute f*ck-wittery of the escapade. Next in the crosshair is the Munsters-flecked 'Fuzz' that lulls you in with its post-breaks opening before gently coercing you down an avenue marked 'breakcore free for all...'. Proving that he's not a one-trick hyperactive pony, Doormouse rolls up his trousers and goes paddling in the instrumental hip-hop of 'Swimming With the Fishes' where a Deep South preacher and old-school horror samples coalesce around a Dr Octagon comparison. Putting the final aural boot in is the 9 minute epic hidden track that, handling itself like the classical Eryx, shotguns shattered rhythms and collapsing chords at a mighty Aesop-esque hip-hop rhyme. As sharp as lemon juice, Doormouse is like an XXX-Rated Prefuse 73 trapped in a revolving door...
