Standards is, by all means, a more accessable affair than 'TNT', the title itself hints at the direction, (Jazz) Standards, maybe? or maybe more a case of a return to a more immediate composition style? Within Standards, however, there's a very subtle subversion going on, a slight augmentation of what we have come to expect from so called 'post rock'. This is evident in the vast array of instrumentation (often sounding much closer to sister-band Isotope 217)- lots of little edits and electronic licks...and, most enticingly, in the extreme adherence to a pop sensibility within the very intricate execution.
