Boomkat Product Review:
Ferocious collaboration between two giants of the avant-garde. Sunn O))) / KTL's Stephen O'Malley needs no introduction, and Steve Noble shouldn't either - since coming up in the 1980s as a member of Rip, Rig & Panic he's established itself as one of the world's foremost improv musicians, wreaking havoc across drums, percussion and turntables. This essential pressing on Bo'Weavil is a live document, drawing on two performances that the duo - who have been working together in Aethenor for some years - gave at London's Cafe Oto in 2011. It's a wild session, no joke: O'Malley attacks his guitar with real violence, creating an oppressive but nonetheless dynamic wall of sludge riffage - interspersed with passages of scorched Earth-style desert blues - that's more than matched in intensity by the megalithic momentum of Noble's drumming. Superb.
