Boomkat Product Review:
Glaswegian producer Marco Bernardi returns under his Octogen guise with three new tracks. Although the EP title comes loaded with Mike Oldfield connotations, you won't find much of that here. Instead 'Square Bells' is a complex techno production, full of jolting rhythms and heavily edited beats whilst kooky synth melodies jostle the track along. In terms of tuning and timing it's all a bit odd, but it sounds great nonetheless. 'Sunset Over Tao' is a different beast altogether, taking on a solid, galloping electro motif with floating electronic chimes providing the melody. Finally, 'Ploughs and Clouds' drifts around on jazzy chord changes, massive snares and even bigger cymbal crashes. It's a distinctly old-fashioned sound, but one that doesn't go out of fashion.
