Boomkat Product Review:
Second solo outing from Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt under the name Lotus Plaza, and a treat for anyone with a predilection for chiming, sun-dappled and stylishly drug-hazed guitar pop.
Pundt's aesthetic affinities evidently lie in a similar sphere to those of Deerhunter later Bradford Cox - the churchy, 4AD-style atmospherics of opener 'Untitled' paving the way for some really nice shoegaze and C86-inflected stuff - fans of The Mighty Lemondrops, early My Bloody Valentine, The Servants, etc can't fail to be charmed by the material on display here, which for our money is actually more engaging than recent Deerhunter stuff. The paisley-and-proud 'Strangers' is a particular highlight, but the quality is consistent throughout - if you want to be transported back to a more innocent time of tape-making, first love and suburban ennui, this record is just the ticket.
